Raised garden bed

This weekend I borrowed a friend’s circular saw (Thanks, Trey!) and finally executed my plan for a Z-shaped raised garden bed. I bought four 8 ft by 12 in cedar boards, which I cut into eight pieces:

  • four 2 ft long
  • two 4 ft long
  • two 6 ft long

z bedI also bought an 8 ft 2 in by 4 in beam of untreated pine which I cut into eight 11 in lengths for support at each corner.Throw in a box of 2 in. galvanized screws and there you have it.

It took about 35 bags of top soil and compost (40 lbs bags) to fill the bed. We’re late for the spring planting but we’ll be ready for fall. In the meantime, we’ll plant a bunch of basil so we can have a pesto summer.
